CG Gallery is excited to present the opening of ‘The Three Great Stimulants’ by Artist, Author and Professor Magnus Bärtås. Bärtås is currently the vice principal at Konstfack (University of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm and has published several books. As an artist Magnus Bärtås has been exhibited extensively in Sweden as well as internationally during his career. Perhaps most noted for his video art and essay publications, Bärtås decided to expand into a new artform – embroidery. In a series of cut-out embroidery works he has created his own font, assembled by combinations of animals, plants, objects and body parts.
The three great stimulants are derived from a Joni Mitchell song in which she cautions against a new sort of populism targeting “the exhausted people”. In fact it refers to a century old populism called fascism. Some would argue that the ideology of fascism is experiencing a revival in our time. History has not made us immune.
As CG Gallery is a pop-up-gallery, the exhibition is a heartfelt collaboration takes place at Selected Art by Ödlund on Båstadsgatan 4 in Malmö.
